On Monday, February 3rd the fourth grade pupils were invited to a book reading at the U.S. Consulate General Leipzig. As a part of the English language program, the children had the opportunity to recognize African American History Month with Emily Norris, the Consul for Political and Economic Affairs. Mrs. Norris read the book Henry’s Freedom Box, which tells the true story of Henry Brown and how he mailed himself to freedom. Afterwards, the children had the opportunity to ask some questions about the story and the Consulate’s role in Leipzig before heading back to school. To conclude the celebration of African American History Month, the children will be writing their own versions of human rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech.
